Out Walking One Spring Day....
Out walking one Spring day, A blinding balmy day in May, Along Grosvenor Road, beside the River Thames I heard a voice call out, “Oi mate, I’m a stranger round this way, D’ya know where them ETAT meets takes place Where I’m told, I’ll be made welcome among real friends”? Well…you’re lucky you met me I’m their poet, helps wash up there, makes their tea Follow me, you’ll see where ETAT’s at? But…before we do, I’d best ask some simple questions So you can like be guaranteed ETAT acceptance? Then when you meet the crew, you can really feel relaxed. Can you dance like…Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire? Albeit with Grecian 2000 in their hair Belt out a blinding tune, without being flash? Are you discreet, polite, up for a laugh? Don’t give two hoots bout acting daft? Could you feed pigs at their annual Glasto bash? Are you musical, do you sing? A doer what loves to just…join in? Doesn’t mind their hands getting dirty having fun? Ever performed in public @ The Tate? In concert alongside all your ETAT mates Ate lunch al fresco, down The Avenue neath the sun? How long has it been; since…you’ve seen a beach? Belted out bawdy songs…on a jolly to the sea? Ate jellied eel or whelks, watching waves caress soft sand? Fish n chips for lunch at Weston Super Mare Blown a nice few quid in the arcades, or the fair, Went fishing, simply on a whim…because you can? Enjoyed a blinding day out at Kew? Taken tea with The Mayor, wowing at the view Over our beautiful City of Westminster? Can you knit, paint or crochet? Turn your hand to doing fantastic things with clay? Make little chicks from felt, ETAT could flog at Easter? Maybe you just want to sit back n have a chat? Well there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that You’ll be encouraged to do anything…you would like to do If any of the above seem like your cup of tea Then be my guest, best follow me To ETAT, tailor made for someone just like…YOU! Four Seasons Spring Sweeping sweetly through me, while Playing music in my mind, Resurgent spring is here, I smile, Indulging thoughts of love, I find No trace of bitterness – the past Gone, the seasons change at last… Summer Sleeping through this summer season, Untold memories and dreams Make for joy without a reason, Marvelling at all that seems Expressive of its warmth and glow, Reflecting all its glories show… Autumn As all that lives is growing old, Unlike these words which cannot change, This autumn’s world of sorrows fold Us in its soft decay, the strange Murmurings of days gone by Near silent endings, fade and die… Winter Whilst winter’s cold and cruel breath Inspires these lines with which I end, Night’s darkness lengthens, speaks of death, The Christmas season cheers, to send Enchantment, joy and happiness, Returning in its endlessness.
